Battery Charging Rick 9-12-04
I have a '95 Firan LMC 36', is there a system on my motorhome, that will charge the batteries when the unit is connected to A/C power??
If there is, how does it work and where is it??
Thanks Rick
Re: Battery Charging Ben in Montana 9-13-04
What I and others have done is to use a short wire with crocodile clips at the ends and jumper across the solenoid that parallels the motorhome batteries and the engines battery when you are underway. You must remove this jumper before you start the engine as the motorhome batteries are not designed for the large starter current but are for long time slow discharge. Thats why no one puts a switch on it as they may forget and damage these 'deep discharge' batteries. I tried to use a 'high curent diode' across this solenoid to automatically charge the engine battery but it had a.75 volt drop and the battery would not fully charge.

The previous answer sounds highly risky and complicated, and it does not seem to address your problem. If you want to charge the batteries while parked and using 'shore power' why not just get a 12-volt battery charger and hook it to the batteries you want charged. Then just plug it in to the 110.
