Trailering a race car Tim Myers 4-25-01
I see lots of Class A's towing race trailers. I have a 25 ft. Haulmark race trailer (3680 pounds) and race care and gear (another 2800) for a total of 6480 pounds. Are some of the smaller Class A's (24/25/26/27/28) capable of towing this setup? I am a little familiar with the GVR's etc. however even if they are a bit low, is this still possible, or are there things that can be done to help? My longest trip would be about 6 hours.
twin_turborx7@yahoo.com thanks in advance.

Tim,
I have a 28ft Haulmark Race Trailer that we tow with a 2000 38' Monaco Diplomat Diesel(315 HP). Tows our race operation great. I purchased the diesel after a year of towing with a 1999 36' Bounder on chevy chassis (454 Engine). Towing with the gas engine chassis was adequate if towing in flat areas, but once you encountered hills on the highway the power was barely acceptable and a real chore to drive. If towing your trailer will be a minimal part of your Motorhome usage you could be fine with a gas coach, but if you are like me and always use your coach while trailering then I would highly reccomend a diesel (big block version) coach. You will be much happier if you tow alot. I travel 12-14 hours to races and the drive is much easier with the diesel than the gas coach ever was. Hope this helps,
