Main Engine Battery dead in 7-10 days. Jack Kelley 6-20-01
Howdy Neighbors;
I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. We recently bought a 1989 Pace Arrow, 37', with a Ford 460 & a 4 barrel carb. A week later the engine battery was dead. I put in a new 1,000 cranking amps battery. It was dead in 10 days, while parked, connected to house current. Has anyone else had a similar problem & what was the cure? Thankyou very much. Have a Great Day...

We just bought a 1990 Pace Arrow this summer. We had the exact problem. We kept charging the battery and it would die in a few days.
Took it in and they found that it was a mistake made when they put the original motor in. The frame for the motor was sitting on one of the wires running to the starter. They told me that they were amazed that it took this long to wear off the coating on the wire and cause the problem. Starts fine now.
Now we are dealing with overheating problems. I hope you have better luck than we are.

JACK, THE HUMIDITY SWITCH ON FRIG WILL DEFINATELY DRAIN MAIN BATTERY, AS OTHER GENTLEMAN SAID. ALSO, MOST COACHES OF YOUR AGE ONLY CHARGE THE AUXILLARY BATTS WHEN PLUGGED INTO 110. COACH HAS TO BE RUNNING(ALTERNATOR CHARGING) OR GENERATOR RUNNING TO CHARGE MAIN BATTERY. IF YOU HAVE A OWNERS MANUAL IT SHOULD STATE SO. SIMPLE CURE IS TO START RIG AND LET WARM UP EVERY 4-5 DAYS...WORKS FOR MINE. HOPE THIS HELPS

HI Jack
Your convertor charger is not working,,breaker may be at the off position,, may have a wire corroded near the battery, the convertor may be busted (burn). If you're handy with tools, check the output voltage at convertor with a V.O.M. If convertor is gone,,replace with a high frequency/pulse charger, you will save a lot on the battery life.

I had the same problem, checked the charger, it was working, but only charging the house batteries. I now isolate the chassis battery when I park. Does anyone know what is wrong when the house batteries are charging but not the chassis battery when plugged in??

This may seem off wall. I had same problem on 84 Winnbago. Check switch in Refrigerator, usually on top of freezer door jam, Climate (Humidity) control switch. It defrosts you freezer when you are in a very humid climate. It runs all the time. Even when ref. is turned off. Why is draws down the car battery I not know. Turn it off. It might help.
