Bounder - To Buy (or not) Phil 6-21-01
I have an opportunity to buy a 1996 Bounder 36S for $35,000. It was a repossession and has cosmetic problems such as dirty carpet (needs replacing) and needs throrough cleaning, etc. Otherwise, all systems check out and engine/transmission are ASSUMED good. The unit has 44K miles and is fully loaded and with a slide. I realize I may be taking a chance that the cosmetic problems reflect that the previous owner didn't take care of the mechanicals either, but for the price, I am leaning towards buying it. Anyone else have any thoughts on this? Thanks

If you're handy with tools and mechanic incline, go for it. But to fix RV, you have to know about electric,(12 V.DC & 115/220 AC) plumbing, mechanic, carpentry.
good luck wrench

I would stay away from any recent built Bounder on the market. As well as any unit made made by Fleetwood. I have own three unit since 1998, everyone being worst than the previous. My last was a 99 34v which had major problems from front to back. Windshield coming out because of inproper engineering and sizing without any automotive sealing. The slide was out of square and taken completely out 4 times without success to fix the problem. Blackwater tank not engineered to drain or fill properly. The rear end dropped over 1 1/2 inches due to poorly designed tank placement. The factory repairs are no better than a high school auto shop. The previous built units had the side popping out due to poor lamination, cargo bays with screw heads popping off and a whole lot more. Stay away from Fleetwood and Bounders especially.

Wr have a 99 Bounder (diesel pusher) acquired last summer used (low miles). This is my 1st coach.
Generally very happy. Some minor problems, but overall quality seems good.
