|I think you will find the 454 a reliable engine if you take care of it. Cracked manifolds come from heavy foot on gas going up hills and wide open starts. Air pumps causes manifolds to run very hot ( can disconnect on models befor fuel injection). I think you will find belt problems to be heavy rust on the multi rib pulleys. Replaced multi rib pulleys on my unit 25k miles ago. Before replacing the pulleys could only get 2k miles. Some units have stainless steel exhaust manifolds with an expandable bellows between cylinders and they hold up very well.
Fords get cracked manifolds also. I replaced them three times on my E350 in 90k miles. Discovered I was driving too fast and taking the hills with wide open throtle plus air pump was working. Air pump quit working and I slowed down on hills. No more cracked manifolds.
