Triton V10 EGR valve Jim Herrington 8-19-02
My Ford V10 powered Bounder has an intermittent "rattle" in the engine when not under load. I suspect a defective EGR valve.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
JH

Could it be something loose (bracket, rod, clamp, etc); or, if the dash air conditioning is running, they sometimes make no-load noises in the a.c. clutch. If you really suspect the EGR valve, ask a physician or nurse over for a drink and borrow their stethascope, and place it close to the EGR valve.

I own a 2003 Winnie motorhome powered by a ford triton v10 with 20k on the motor. recently i detected a noise similar to a bad water pump bearing coming from the engine at idle. the ford dealer diagnosed the problem and told me that a bracket for the emissions system located inside the valve cover had broken loose and was bouncing around on top of the head creating the noise. according to the dealer the bracket is attached to the inside cover with epoxy. i can't believe ford would glue a bracket inside a valve cover. does anyone know of a permanent fix to this marvelous engineering feat ??? also replacing the valve cover is out of the question....ford no longer stocks the part hooray for planned obsolescence.

Serpentine belt tensioners on ALL Ford are notorious for rattling at idle.

No problem at idle, but I get a rattle under power. It seems right at the shift points or even when you rev up the motor not in gear. 1997 class c

Loaping idle Tom Weber 8-17-03
My Triton V10 has a rough idle like a problem with the choke. As though it is loaping. It runs out on the highway like a Champ but, when I stop and idle, it is a mess. Seems like maybe getting too much fuel, trying to flood out, trys to die but doesnt.
The coach was built in Colorado and previous owners lived in Colorado. Someone told me that the air here in Missoui was different. Told me to disconnect the battery cable for 20 minutes to reset the computer. Didnt work. Any suggestions????
