Towing an automatic Civic Bill Ellis 8-10-09
Can I tow my 1996 Civic automatic on all four tires without damage to the transmission? Flat tow? Thanks

I tow my 1998 Accord automatic and have not had any problems. Been doing this for three years. Check you owners manual or call Honda Service and talk to them to be sure. I suspect the procedure for yours is probably the same as for my vehicle. With engine running, shift into reverse then from 1st up to drive then into neutral. Turn the key to unlock the steering column and out of accessory position.

You are supposed to do this every 250 miles but I have gone as far as 500 miles at a time with no problems.

Thanks, manual states to pull in 3ed or 4th but not to exceed 35mph or 50 miles. I checked Remco and they said nothing need to be able to tow. I am going to give it a go and will see.
