I’m looking at a 1991 32 foot BARTH, Model EC-2242, Class A motor home, Engine is a B5.9 Cummins (ident #44614849), transmission, AT542 (ident #, 3210549065) that needs a whole lot of TLC but it starts right up and runs down the road smooth. The tires are like new and the brakes were just brought redone. It has 160,000 miles on it and but it doesn’t have much in the way of get up and go. Takes the over a half mile to get it rolling 60 mph: does that sound right? I’d like to use it to pull a 24 foot 5000 pound GVW cargo trailer 2500 miles from Michigan to Sacramento, CA. If I buy it I’ll have three weeks to work on it replacing belts, installing a re-cored radiator, fixing rusted out cargo compartments, etc. I don’t care if it goes slow up hills if that is normal for this old unit; but I would rather not try it if I'm asking to break down. The second owner says it gets 18 miles per gallon; is that possible? I'd believe 8 or 9 maybe. Price is $6000. Would appreciate comments both pro and con.
