1988 F 350 Elite motor home won't keep running by Bruce
Post New Message I just bought a motor home and never even made it home. it acts like it is out of gas and then won't start. It turns over but won't start. 1988 F 350 with a 5.8 (351) fuel injected. Had it towed to the mechanic. After it got there I tried one more time and it started. They (the mechanic) replaced the coil and coil pick up, and the fuel filter. It was running good, went to drive it home and it did the same thing all over again. I am running out of money (tow trucks are expensive) and will try and fix it my self. Any ideas what is going on. I am sure it is not getting fuel. it turns over and will fire, but will not start or run very long if it does. the reason I believe it is a fuel problem is that there is no smell of fuel at the tail pipe when it won't start. If I pump the throttle, it will fire and not start. The fuel pump does run when the key is turned on.

Does this truck have two fuel pumps? Is there an alternative to the $45.00 filter from the factory?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Bruce
