Exactly right. Think of the float inside your toilet tank. This principle is exactly the same and you can WATCH it in operation. Standard float is a ball on the end of the shut off arm. Water rises, float rises, arm moves into shutoff position, toilet shuts off, right? If the float were to become STUCK, it would SUBMERGE in teh rising water, and the water would begin to overflow the top of the toilet tank.....or since it is a closed chamber in the carb it would start to overflow THROUGH THE VENT TUBE. Unless you know what you are doing I wouldn't attempt to rebuild the carb myself. Save yourself a hassle (and argument with the wife). Find a carb specialist and let him/her rebuild it. Those guys are still out there in this fuel injected world of today, you sometimes have to hunt is all. I went from gas station to gas station, old rolodex to greasy old business card, before finding a guy who did a fantastic job rebuilding it and charged me $150. Good luck. |
