BANKS POWER SYSTEM RAY 7-19-07
I am considering the banks system for my 8.1workhorse engine what should i expect?
Re: BANKS POWER SYSTEM Ken 10-1-07
I have a Ford 7.5L, not an 8.1 GMC, but for what it's worth, I did the Banks pack this spring. It's not like "instant hotrod," but you begin to notice things. Immediately, it seems to run more freely; you can tell it revs quicker from an idle; you notice better pickup on the freeway, etc. I noticed an improvement in heat dissipation when climbing grades I was familiar with (of course, when I switched to full synthetic engine oil, I thought the engine temp indicator had quit working - HUGE difference - temp increase of maybe 5 degrees on a grade where I previously got a 30 degree jump.)
The cast iron headers under that "doghouse" plus the highly restrictive stock air intake are a pretty fertile basis for Banks to record an improvement. Can't really say how much you're going to notice in your 8.1, but it stands to reason that with virtually any engine, where you have load-bearing metal surfaces in contact, creating heat and resistance, anything you can do to improve air flow, "breathability," proper temp control, and lupricity has got to add hugely to the life of an engine, simply by not working it to death.
Sorry to go on, but I'm real happy with my 7.5. Yeah, it's only been months and not years, but we'll see...
Ken
