1987 fuel problem eric reinhardt 6-28-07
I have a 2.9l fuel injected engine in my ranger, its dual tank and was running great. the other day as i was driving if just quit and put me on the side of the road. the engine turns over but its not getting gas, the front pump works and the filter is new. the sylinoid or whatever might be rotted out. if you have any solutions please email me.

Take the gas cap off and have someone turn key to on position, with your ear near the filler tube see if you hear rear pump run for about 2 seconds turn key off and try it a few times. No sound of pump running check all fuses if ok you may have bad pump in tank. Good Lu ck MIKE Ps. If you do change pump use only Ford Factory Pump.

Also check or replace fuel pump relay, think it may be in or near the fuse box under the hood.I think the last ford one I got was about 12 dollars. Not a bad idea to replace if it has 100k miles or so.They do go bad, sometimes the points weld closed and will keep the pump running with the key off.Other times the points burn and won't make contact to turn the pump on. Good Luck MIKE
