I was wondering how you can tell if fan clutch is shot on fan. and the best way to tell if radiator is clogged.i am trying to get the best cooling possible.

Change it. Our Bounder was heating up and I had NO ROAR when starting cold(it will settle overnight and roar in morning)Now it cools beter. I figure that anything older then 10 years probably needs a new one any way.

When you start climbing up grades on a warm day you will hear it come on,and it will even feel like it down shifted. The temp gauge will level out and then start cooling back down where it normally runs.If the radiator has not been flushed in a while(two or three years] it might be time to flush and replace the coolant.Check all hoses and clamps, and any belts for cracking.A pressure test is also a good idea.I like the green Prestone stuff the best. Good Luck Mike

I just installed a new fan clutch in my 454 rv and the thing sounds like a turbine when it engages....Mike is right, it sounds like it's downshifting when it engages.
good luck. a new fan clutch will make a whole world difference.

It turned out my 1992 P30 radiator needs recoring when we pulled it off to get better access to replacing the alternator and water pump plus hoses and belts. Today they said it would be OK for local runs but risky to do a 5K mile run out west next year. With the price of copper it is like a $500 job any more but crossing the Rockies would not be a place to need a new radiator. If you have any seeps or have it off make sure you get it into a good shop. After 15 years they are getting thin.
