460 distributor robert 6-15-07
I rebuilt a 1978 ford 460 with new cam and distributor and after about thirty miles it destroyed the cam shaft gear and distributor gear. after re rebuilding the engine to remove all of the metal shavings i discovered that the distributors gear for that engine has two different holes for two different gear placements could that be what went wrong and how do i know which gear hole to use for my engine?
Re: 460 distributor mike 6-23-07
Some of those cam gears on the cam are not properly machined or hardened and can cause problems. Was the cam changed? My friend had big problems after rebuild and went thru 3 cams. After replacing with ford factory parts no more problems. His would go ok around town but would grind up the gears on open road trip. Good Luck MIKE
