1988 Pace Arrow 454 P30 need cooling advice David 3-26-07
Purchase a used class A fleetwood pace arrow. She likes to run hot even when it 50 degrees outside temp. Just changed the thermostat to 160 degree opening. Looking for others who have sucessfully modified there cooling system. Planned on taking some metal and bending it to a big air scoop under the hood. flair out a wide as I can go from the front grille and narrow down to the radiator so no air escapes on the bottom or sides of the radiator. your help in this matter would be great.

Has the radiator been flushed and pressure tested. Also put the factory spec.thermostat back in.Check the timing to see if its at factory specs.Have the clutch fan checked it may not be coming on when it gets up to temp. Also if the EGR is not working it will cause heating problem.Sometimes a mechanic will mess with timing trying to stop pinging becaues the EGR is not working right.A easy test to see if its working feel the back of the EGR where the diaphram is.rev up the engine to 2000 rpm or so and see if it moves. If its not moving have it checked with a vacuum hand pump. Don't think you need any air scoops when you get to the root problem.Chev.had most of there overheating problems cured by 85,86 Good Luck MIKE

IF EVERYTHING ELSE SEEMS TO CHECK OUT CHECK YOUR EXHAUST. ON THE BIG BLOCKS JUST A LITTLE RUST PARTLY BLOCKING THE MUFFLERS CAN CAUSE HEAT PROBLEMS. I'VE SEEN PEOPLE SPEND A LOT OF MONEY ON COOLERS AND FANS WHEN A NEW MUFFLER WAS THE FIX. RICH

I have a rv 454 1990 and I was running hot. I replaced clutch fan, water pump, radiator, hoses, belt and now it runs at about 185. I also replaced the thermostat w/ 165. The fan clutch should sound like a turbine when it engages...mine does...i decided to spend a little more and get it all fixed right. now in Florida hot weather, runs cool....
