454 starting problem

Post New Message Does the starter make just one click or does it just keep clicking.There maybe a relay circuit in the starter solenoid circuit that is droping voltage to the solenoid.If you can safely measure voltage to the solenoid wire it should be around 11volts or so.If its much below 10 volts it may not pull in.If the clicking noise is constant it may be what is causing the speedometer to read 30 mph. You may have a bad hold in coil inside the solenoid,if it is weak or open circuit,it will pull in but jump right back out and start all over again causing the clicking noise.If all connections are clean and battery is up I would guess a relay or bad solenoid but try to check voltages first befor replacing any parts.
