Hi motorhome bogs under load backfires out of carb a little. Took m/h to shop for $65.00 to check out. Went to pick up m/h guy told me I need to change carb to new one rochester not good (1200.00 for holly carb) also needs new EGR ($250.00 AC Delco) and new vacume lines ($200.00) So I took carb of took to carb shop rebuild $200.00 new AC Delco EGR $117.00 and new vacume lines $20.00 idles a little better still has bog changed fuel pump relay because no power at rear pump has power now at pump still bogs and backfires under load load.Any help Thanks
How many miles on it.If the plug wires have not been changed in 30 or 40 k miles replace them.Have you measured fuel pressure at the carb.? Have you replaced fuel filter on the frame rail (right side) Also there may be a time delay valve that delays vacuum to the advance module on the dist. Mine froze up from just setting so much.Follow vacuum back from the Dist.to the front of engine near the thermostat area. For a test I would hook up vacuum gage at the dist.and see if you are geting vacuum to it.Good Luck MIKE
Hi I also changed the cap, rotor, coil, springs, module, capacitor, vacume advance, all internal parts in dist( HEI kit from jegs ),high temp wires, high temp heat sleeves(for wires),rapid fire plugs, fuel filter at frame and carb, pcv valve, crank case breather. I am getting 4.5 lbs at the carb side.I belive that the vacume advance is adjustable. Mike e you talked about a delay valve that delays advance what does it look like I think my hose goes to a vacume tree. also rv has 72,000 miles on it and how much vacume should the dist have?? Thanks dz
Not sure if your 88 would have the delay valve, but it has a couple of vacuum hoses hooked to it and screws in to the intake manafold near the water intake.I think mine may have 3 hoses to it.I Think for a test you could just by pass it.Not sure what vacuum would be but it will drop when engine sees a load and allows the vacuum advance to move up the timing. Is the idle rough it may have vacuum leak.Have you checked compression yet.?? Just sounds like running a bit lean.If you can't find anything wrong I would at least do a compression test just to rule out any other problems. Good Luck MIKE
Yes thats the delay valve, don't know the proper name or number.Took mine down to the dealer,he had some trouble finding me a new one.He had there driver take it to a large GM wharehouse about 40 miles to it.But it stuck in one position,I think you could by pass it for a test to see if it runs better. It just keeps advance off it warm up.Do you have good thermostat.Needs to get up to temp.I think it turns on vacuum on one port when it turns off vacuum to other.Did you install new hoses?maybe crossed up. Not sure but think vacuum source was center hose.Good Luck MIKE
Is this delay valve screwed wright in to the thermastat housing I see a round deal in the side of the thermastat housing it has about three to four vacume hoses going in it. Idle is not bad at all now that the carb is rebuilt. No I have not done a compression test I will work on that next. Also do you know the the real name of the delay valve so I can get knew one?? Thanks dz
I am going to take mine out and take it to napa. I just put knew T-stat in and flushed out coolant and put knew in. Its possible I got hoses crossed up but I took them off one at a time so not to do that. the rv does run a bit better when its cold and then not so good when warm. HELP THANKS DZ
