Engine rpm J. Mizell 2-15-07
Just acquired a low mileage 93 Holiday Rambler diesel pusher. It has a B5.9 Cummins and Allison 6 speed transmission. Question is. At 65mph I am showing 1350 rpm, with the transmission in "economy" position(pretty flat land here in East Texas).I've been told that I need to be running closer to 1700-1800 to get the best fuel economy(presently get 9-10). Anyone out there have any thoughts on this? Thanks.
Re: engine rpm wrench 2-18-07
I am quite sure you don't have a 5.9L, as at 65 it need to turn 2500 to have enough power to keep going.
More likely you got a 8.3L 300/330 HP to do 1350 at 65MPH. & 9-10 MPG is pretty close the best you will get. 1700-1800 RPM is too high for economy, that's the range for montain, where you need power to climb & RPM to cool the engine. I don't think they made pusher with small block.
