I have a 78 440 need more hp if i change the heads with set from 1970 would they help and are they interchangeble also do you know the torque rating do you think a mild cam and intake would help thanks

Your 78 has hardened valve seats and flows as much as the earlier heads. Low compression is your problem, I have put an earlier 1967 intake (super commando) and an earlier carb (AVS) it helped alot...but changing the pistons is the key.
