Heard of it from old timers, don't do it on anything now days.I think it was to clean up the injectors but not needed now days.I would not try it on my rig.Check back here later, there are so old time bus mechanics that hang here, may wave some other ideas.Good Luck MIKE
ATF is a hydraulic fluid, not a fuel additive. The flash point, pour point, cloud point and additives are all wrong for a fuel additive. Excess ash, soot and other problems will be the result. Also, you may end up replacing the fuel filter, fuel pump and injectors…not cheap. DO NOT ADD ANYTHING TO DIESEL FUEL.
Leave old wive's tales to the old wives…they know little or nothing about diesel engines. Can you say cetane number? Thought so.
Actually when I was replailng the fult filter on my 6V92 it was suggested by 2 different mechanics to fill the filters with ATF before installing them. Was told it would clean the injectors. I did as was suggested and everything is fine. Was told that was done all the time on Detroit 92 series engines.
