I have a 1978 Dodge class C which has a 440 with 35,000 miles. It runs great when warmed up and starts easily when warm. But when it sits for more than a couple days, it is very hard to start. I have to pump the heck out of it before it starts. It this a carb problem or fuel pump problem, or? Suggestions?
Thanks
Have a mechanic check out the choke circuit on your carb.Try leaving the air cleaner off over night and then look at the butterfly plate just inside of the top of the carb. When cold it should be almost all the way closed. If it is not closed with just a crack open to let air in it will hard to start when closed.Good Luck MIKE
I had the same problem last year I have a 1977 Apollo Motorhome. After a few days of letting it sit the engine would crank over forever before starting. After investigating it I fould out it was not getting fuel very quick. It had to turn over a lot to pump enough fuel into the carb to start. I installed for about $85.00 a carter fuel pump. I now turn on the ignition for 20 seconds. I can hear the fuel being pumped into the carb. I then press the gas pedal five times to prime. The enging fires up within a second every time now for over a year. It works great......no starting problems ever...good luck...
