When you release the key a little the engine stay runnig. I replace starter, starter relay, dual ballast resistor, ign. switch and key and with a used ecu. How does the ballast resister work so I can trace the wiring.
Thanks
Check all the wiring around the ballast resister.Make sure the new one is not open circuit. You say its dual ballast, does it have 4 leads wires? two resisters.Might check if it is two check with a ohm meter if resistance is the same.Usually the ballast resister lowers the coil voltage in the run mode, but the ign.switch bypasses the resister in the start position and applys 12 volts when starting.Don,t know about your setup but I think the older dodges had contacts on the starter that sent 12 volts up to the coil when starting.See if you have 12 volts to the primary side of the coil when cranking then see what voltage you get to after it starts. If you still can't find you might run a test jumper that has a 2 or three amp fuse in series to the coil positive then to the battery positive and then crank it and see if it keeps running.Be carefull and if it does run don't run to long a min. or two.I will look through some old manuals and see if I can more info. Good Luck Mike
Hey Don,
I had the same issue with my 360 Sportsman RV. It was in the timing, fer some reason the timing has something to do with the Modulaters function. And with the timing off a tad, my engine would not stay running. Give that a try.
