Pace Arrow Overheating JStewart 7-7-01
Purchased an '85 Pace Arrow in February. In March I noticed it was overheating somewhat. Since Summer was coming I had it checked out and had a new heavy duty fan clutch installed, radiator power flushed and new 195 degree thermostat and new radiator cap installed. Still overheated...Then installed a 16" electric fan on the a/c condenser. On a recent trip from Dallas to Amarillo, it overheated again (boiled over). In Amarillo an RV mechanic installed a 180 degree thermostat. RV ran cooler but still begins to touch the redline at 55-58 mph. Slowed down to 55 mph and RV ran near the red. As a last effort, I am planning to remove the radiator and have it cored. Any further suggestions. Wife is getting hot physically and mentally!

Fleetwood, and to a lesser degree, Winnabego, were notorious for blocking air flow around the engine with the motor home body. U need to look for a way to get the air to move under the mh. One solution I read of utilized 4" round fresh air ducts cut in under the headlights and directed just ahead of the manifolds and downward. Make sure that the radiator is closed in on top and sides, and check to see that the fan shroud is not missing.

Re: Pace Arrow Overheating FAST FRED 7-8-01
A frequent problem with overheating is too much antifreez.

AS your in HOT country try a 2 part flush and then mix 2/3 distilled water with 1/3 antifreez.

This still gives good corrosion protection and cools lots better than 50/ 50.

BE sure to check the ignition timing , and toss a can of carb/ injector cleaner thru the fuel tank.

Check for restricted air cleaner.

FAST FRED

Why would too much antifreeze cause an engine to overheat? I have had to replace two 454 chevy big block engines on my 1966 Pace Arrow Motor home due to a detonation problems. Any ideas on what could be causing this??
