86 PACE ARROW 454 CHEV H5D EMISSION. A.I.R. PUMPS RUMBLES SOUNDS LIKE EXHAUST LEAK. HOW TO CHECK IF WORKING PROPERLY? HOW DIFFICULT TO REPLACE?
These are sliding vane, positive displacement pumps. If the belts are at the proper tension and the pump mounts aren't loose, etc.,then the 15 year old pump is most likely on it's way out. They either work, (pump air), or they sieze, a condition signaled by a loud screech from the drive belt. There is a certain amount of noise generated by the check valves in the pump out-put tubing. The pumps are fairly easy to change, finding a good replacement is the trick. |
