Post New Message I agree, you have a fuel problem. The backfiring noise you hear is caused by a leaning out condition. Those Ford fuel pumps are not most reliable. More than likely this is your trouble, although sometimes clogged fuel filters will cause this same problem. You said you checked fuel pressure? Remember, fuel pressure must be checked with the engine under load, checking it at idle is essentially meaningless.
