Chev 454 bad gas? ernie 7-15-06
Have a 97 bounder ran good. Lost a little on Montana Mountains but OK. Took on 70 gals of gas at Flying J in Butte,MT. Within 5 miles, started backfiring under any engine load. Had to keep gearing down. Got to where I couldn,t use OD at all except downhill. Two tanks later and it still has no power. Coincidence or bad gas??

Have you changed fuel filters yet.You might cut one open and see if its pluged up.Sounds like engine is running lean.May have filter in tank also.Have mechanic check fuel pressure to injector rail, may have weak fuel pump.Try the filters first, easy and may be cheap fix. Good luck Mike

Also some of that gas may be blended for mountains in the area, lower octaine so may try using better grade gas for a tank or so.Mountain gas does't work well down on the low lands. Mike
