Hi,
We have a 1978 Beaver MH 47,000 mi. it has a 440 in it.It smokes alot when you first start it up and tapers off to not much. Someone following dosn't notice it smoking. Any ideas what it might be and how to fix it?
GLENN..I WAS HAVING PROBLEM WITH THAT ON START UP. IT WOULD RUN ROUGH AND SMOKE UNTIL IT GOT WARM.
THIS OLDER MECHANIC SAID TO CHECK THE VACUUM.
SAID SOMETIMES IT STICKS. TOU CAN TAKE TUBE OFF AND BLOW AND WATCH IF THE RUBBER SEAL OPENS AND CLOSES. MINE DID NOT. I REPLACED, RUNS FINE. THE VAC IS FROM INSIDE MH OVERLOOKING ENGINE CARB ON THE RIGHT BACK SIDE BOTTOM OF CARB. VERY INEXPENSIVE.
Yep, sounds like valve stem seals. swing by my place, i'll help you put some new ones in.it's not hard, you need a compressor with a fitting for the spark plug hole, or you can shove some rope in the spark plug hole. to prevent the valve from falling in. email me if you want, i'll walk you through it. it's really not hard to do
My 1977 440 dodge enginge does the same thing on the passenger side. How do I replace the valve stem seals. I have a book but it looks confusing. I have a new air compressor and fairly good mechanics skills. Any help would be appreciates.
