Old, tired 413 jeff 6-29-06  
I just purchased a 1971 Horizon 26' motorhome with a 413. it is blowing oily smoke under compression, and when it is under a load. It doesn't seem to want to go over 3,200 rpm. Should I rebuild this motor, buy a crate 413, or replace it with anothe size motor (will a 440 bolt in?)

How many miles on it.Have you had a compression test done.Is the PCV valve pluged up.?May be running too rich causing smoke and power problems.How are the plugs and wires.? May need more info. Good Luck Mike

Assuming you have to fix it i think is way better to buy a Crate engine about the same size of yours (o a little bigger if you want off course)

Where are you located? i have a good 413, come and get it. i bought it for the transmission. it's a '72, with truck heads and water pump/'m in surrey bc canada
