Warranty Mechanic issue's Mark Dupuy 3-27-06
I had an oil leak at the crank seal on our Cummins 300 turbo. Less than 3000 miles on it. Warranty shop calls back and says oil on the rediator and Cummins will not pay to remove the radiator and steam clean it. Service writer calls me and leaves a message it will be $1,000.00 to remove and clean. I called him back and i agree for him to pull it down and steam it off to avoid overheating. I told him i didn't agree that it should take that much labor and he said he was making sure he was covered. I told him "Please be easy on the labor, I shouldn't have to pay anything with the Warranties I have paid for." He said he would take care of us. I spoke to numerous Diesel mechanics and they agreed around 3-3.5 hrs max. Radiator flush, replaced fan belt, new fluids and a bill for $1,209.00 later they have my coach and I am on my way to them This morning to negotiate. What would you all do.

Huh?
If you got warranty you got warranty.
Call cummins direct and ask whether this service would be recomended?
Why its not covered as their unit caused it? and in general raise a very calm and polite fuss. Ask them to intervine as you felt pressured and unsure as to what was requiered. Unless the hoses are very very oil soaked or damaged they should have been okay and again why wasn't it covered if it needed to be done?
As I now work a counter in a repair facility I know the best results are got by the calm and freindly. Good Luck. I think the repair shop has got you as you agreed to the basic repiar but Cummins might be able to help from their end.
