Need help on engine removal. Danny Kerwood 3-25-06
Hello... I need the engine out of my parents 1982 (or so) Foretravel. It is a 454 and I need it incredibly bad for my truck, since I have no funds for such a thing. How in the world could I get that thing out? Open the interior engine cover and out the door? Through the front grill that opens up? I am strapped for cash, so I hope that the answer would be cheap.

First, when you're strapped for cash you don't undertake a project like that, second being strapped for cash you don't get an engine wich drink that much gas @ 3.00 a gallon.
3= Are you stealing your parents engine?
The engine come out the bottom, the whole RV need to be up jacked up 4 feets high, take the axel off & drop the engine & tranny all at one.
It's a very major job, dangerous, & require major heavy duty equipment( H.D ramp or pit, hydraulic jack, knowledges, tools, over head crane or loader).

I work in the RV industry and have rebuilt many big block chevy's. If you have a driver door it will come out there. I use a engine hoist. If necessary I pull the heads. I have never pulled an engine out the bottom, Always out the top. We have a trolley affair for coaches with no driver door.
