My 2001 Ford Ranger has only 48,000 on it and the check engine light keeps coming on. I have reset it a couple of times but within 10 miles it will be back on. Code reader says "P0171 and P0174". I need more information. I have already replaced fuel filter. Now what do I do.

Those 2 codes are for system lean on both banks. lean means not enough fuel or too much air. It is probably a vacume leak. start checking all vacum hoses. A stuck open EGR valve will also cause a vacume leak. A bad brake booster will also cause a leak. If you hear a hiss from under the dash when you step on the brake, you have a bad brake booster. Also look for air leaks past the Mass Air Sensor. Check PVC system. Also check that the oil dipstick is sealed. Look for exhaust leaks befor or at the 02 senser. Problems in the e-vap system can cause a lean condition too. Even putting on the wrong gas cap can cause problems. There are a lot of things that can cause a lean problem and these are just a few. but the main thing to remember is KIS. Keep It Simple. As I started with check all hoses and listen for any kind of hissing noise and try to find where it is comming from. Hope this helps.
