Dodge 440 exhaust Douglas Viturino 3-8-06
I have a dodge 440 motor home with stock exhaust, thinking about putting headers on, would it make a difference in gas mileage? How about the heat the headers would put out?

The stock exhaust manifolds have many problems. The worst is that they melt the valve cover gaskets. However juts headers will not do much. When we had a Vogue with a 440 I installed headers, a 3 inch dual exhaust sytem, low back pressure school bus mufflers and a balancing pipe. Sounded sweet, not too loud. Improved performance. Engine heat was reduced. MPG remained the same. Be prepared to spend some money on fancy plug wires as the stock ones would melt. Good luck
