Having to replace a 460 in a 94 Ford Tioga. I heard the chassis and engine could need some help with all the weight. What can I do for better mpg and less strain on engine? Tire size, exhaust system...any suggestions?
I would put in what the hotrodders call a pulling camshaft 260-270 duration. Will help torque. An aluminum manifold for low end torque (Edelbrock). A lower thermostat will help power( cools fuel mixture down). Don't know about headers, have read in other post that it is a no-no because they radiate heat quicker and will melt your engine cover. also lots of noise. Dual exhaust would also help. I have a stock 460 in 23 foot class C, it is a pulling fool. Well that is my two cent worth, hope it helps.
94 460 has efi, not too many aftermarket mods available in intake manifolds or the like
install a k&n air filter element
and
gibson or banks exhaust system
it will wake it up, but at a price and it's the first steps toward future mods
thats about it before you get into a speed density to mass air efi conversion
then you can have better tuning with expensive add on chips and the like
with different camshafts
if you install a different cam with your stock setup, you may run into some major trouble with computer compatability problems, causing the computer to go into "limp" mode and it will run even worse than it does now
