Ford 302 oil on top of timing chain cover Scott 2-2-06
I have a 1973 Ford Bronco with a strong 302 which has several mysterious oil leaks. I have taken precautions when installing the intake manifold gaskets front and back but still oil appears on top of the timing chain cover both sides of the distributor. Some small amounts of oil on the valve covers by the oil fill cap and the passenger side breather but not enough to fill the small valleys on the timing chain cover. The valve cover gaskets are good and not leaking and I just replaced the oil pan gasket with the new one piece one which replaces the 4 piece one, excellent part!! I don't see anything comming from the distributor base, as one can see this is quite annoying!!!! Any assistance would be great!! Thanks

Your best bet would be to get some engine cleaner and clean it real good. start it and let it warm up and see where its leaking from. it sounds to me that its leaking in more than one place. try changing the o-ring on the distributer that sounds like the problem for the timing cover. and also try changing your pcv valve along with that rubber stopper. check your oil cap and see how they gasket is on that. try replacing that too.

Distributer shaft needs a new O-ring to stop the oil leak.. Use a BUNA_N rubber O-ring and put some grease on it so it dont tear when you put it back in the block.....

Thanks Damon, I will be changing the o-ring on the distributor this weekend and I already changed the PCV and gaskets. The hunt continues......
