454 Backfire

454 Backfire Vincent 9-3-05  
Got and 454 LS5 with elelbrock carburator. Cars have a good timming but it always variate to 8 degree to 12 degree. Car runs good at idle speed when advanced timming is plug. When you put gas fastly it is backfiring out the carburator. When we dump the clutch cars backfire from the exausth and carburator. Delco brand new spack plug, fresh accel 8.8 wire well plugg.Good gas pump and fuel is going to the engine.Don't know why doing this. Engine was running great with automatics transmission but now with manual muncie something wrong. Cars is on header carburator.

Migh be a too lean or too rich mixture or bad fire like coil or rotor and dis. cap.. Every vacumm is block no more canister but engine eas great runnig and these feature was already there

Anyone gots something like that me i think something wrong with the advanced timming but why the engine was greatly working before changing transmission for a manual.

You didn't change anything but the tranny? Did your auto tranny have any vacuum lines to it? If not, the only other thing I can think of right now is to try spraying some ether around the intake and carb base (make sure it's not going into the air cleaner pickup) If the engine picks up speed you have vacuum leaks at the intake or base. That will mess up the advance. Rich
