|1971 Chevy C50 backfires and looses power||Brent||3-28-05|
|I have a 1971 Chevy C50 School Bus. It has a 350 engine in it. The engine runs fairly well most of the time. Sometimes it has more power than others. At times I can cruise at 65 and other times I can't get above 55. Ocasionally it will hessitate and backfire. It will do that a couple times and then it seems to "fix" itself and returns to normal. |
Any ideas? Does this sound like a timing issue? Maybe the vacuum advance, or worn timing chain? Or does it sound like a fuel related problem?
Thanks for any ideas,

|Our c50 with a 350 did the same thing. We just rebuilt everything inside the distributer. It had sat outside for a long time and the distributer had corrosion, and water in it. Replace the distributer cap, condenser, points, etc. and then replace all the plugs, plug wires and ends. If it still does it, then it may be timing, but in our case it was the distributer. This shouldn't cost too much, just make sure they give you the right parts and that you adjust the points correctly. Good luck.|

I don't no how I can help your problem. Sorry... Would you happen to have a Wiring Diagram for this type of bus? The Body # is B06344 and Factory Service # is 206311. If you can help out that would be great... I will ask around about your problem...
