I just bought a used 1999 ford ranger excellent condition-body and engine look like new-first owner took care of truck. The engine squeak I thought it was the belts they look brand new. Is this normal???, If not what could it be??? If the truck-engine is idling or I'm just gliding without stepping on the gas pedal there is no squeak but as soon as I step on the gas peadl the truck squeaks and people can hear me coming from down the street. Could be because you just put new belts in it, they seem to stretch kinda quick, and need re-adjusting. Or if they get a few drops of Coolant-Antifreeze on them, that will make them sound bad too. Check the tension, rinse them off with a little bit of water, while its running, water won't hurt any thing, and give that a try. As far as Belt Dressing and such things as that, it just make them slip quiet.

I have a 1998 jeep cherokee clasic.
when i start up and for the first few miles when i excelerate a horrible squeal is heard.
i was told this was due to the high humidity we've been having causing the drive pullies to rust.
