Recently swapped out a 289cid in a '68 Galaxy...long story, short, had trouble with the torque converter going back in the transmission, got it to go back in, now the engine is not connecting with the transmission at the bottom...would like to have a schematic on the whole setup if possible, but any advice would be greatly appreciated

What you have done is to push the convertor into the transmission without aligning the pump drive. The convertor should be on the transmission before you install the engine, and it must be aligned with the pump and fully back into the housing. You may have already have done damage to the pump, seal, or pump bushing.

Most likly you did not spin the converter in all the way. with the trany and converter out of the car put the converter in the tranny and spin it left to right and vise-versa. you should feel the converter click and move closer to the tranny about 3 clicks. what you are doing is mounting the converter on the front pump of the trany. please note that you cannot put the converter on motor first the converter and tranny must be installed togetter as one unit.make sure the converter does not move forward as damage to the front pump may accoure
