I just recently built a chevrolet 350 small block with a brand new holley 750 double pump the motor ran great for a little over 2 months but just the other day everything was normal and then it started busting out and cut off well the carb was flooded I checked the timing, floats, and replaced the power valves. I am currently running 2 6.5" power valves and 79 jets all the way around.
Any help or opinions would be greatly apreciated.
When a Holley carb floods out there are only a few possibilities.
1- Make sure your float levels are correct. If there too high the gas just keeps flowing right thru the needle and seat.
2- Pull the needle and seat and shake them. They should very easily shake back and forth with ease. If there sticky at all replace them.
3-Replace all the carb gaskets
regardless. Sounds like a quick
rebuild will cure your issues.
Holley carbs are pretty basic.
Easily rebuildable in the garage
and quick to troubleshoot while on the vehicle. Entire rebuild kits are
$40 thru Jegs or Summit Racing.
(Needle and seats,new bolt
gaskets,Metering Plate gaskets,Float Bowl gaskets, Main block gaskets, Pretty much a complete kit.
You have a very common carb.
I have a 56 Chevy Street Rod.
Im running a ZZ3 350 Crate motor
and I have a Holley 650 or 670 Street avenger Carb.(not sure it was on the car when I bought it) It's been about 2 weeks since I've started it. I tried to start it today I pumped the gas a couple of times and turned the key. It fired up and ran at a very high RPM
Higher then normal. Then about 15 seconds later the rpm dropped down to about what it should be when you first start it. then it just got rough and started to stall and as long as I would keep my foot on the gas pedal it would keep running but eventually it stalled.
I pulled off my air filter and noticed
gas all around the rim of the carb and it seem that gas was even on the outside of the carb where the throttle linkage is (drivers side) wiped it down tried to start it with no gas and
it seemed like it wasnt getting any so I pressed the pedal and as long as I
gave it gas I would get it to start but not idle. I was plaaning on going to a car show in the morning and if anybody
can help my out I would appreciate it very much.
Thanks,
