1996 E350 460 /7.5 engine rough idle/surging idling jordan 9-26-17
I posted this issue in another forum as well. I have a 1996 E350 camper with a 460 7.5 engine. The coach sat for 3 years with a bad tranny which has recently been rebuilt. The truck ran fine when the truck was parked but when I went to drive it after thetranny rebuild it had a major surge in the idle which continues at any rpm and while driving. Ive added the usual cleaners and am sure it has good gas. I added stabilizer to a small amount of fuel and it now has a full tank. Ive driven it approx 100 miles on this new fuel and it still does it. Fuel is good I truly believe.I added a cap and rotor,a MAP sensor and a fuel pressure regulator. The problem is still there....

I don't know much about the fuel injection, fuel pressure etc etc and hope thats not where this all leads but can somebody give me there thoughts on what this might be ?. I wouldn't take the coach on a trip the way it runs. engine runs so erratically I wouldn't chance it.Thanks for any help.

Hey Jordan,

I had a similar issue and it was a simple fix. Carbon had built up on the air intake valve opening, which is on top of the throttle body. This caused the surging since the valve couldn't fully close. Check on YouTube for videos related to this so you know if the symptoms are the same. Anyway, you'll have to unhook your battery so as to not negatively affect the sensors in the air intake, which means you'll need to sync your computer again once you connect the battery again.

If that's not the problem, you'll have lost nothing. Anyway, common problem...
