OUCH! That's a lot. Did this come on suddenly? Can you get compression tests done? There are two. One, the cranking type with a gauge screwed into each the sparkplug hole. The other is a "blowdown" test where each cylinder is brought to Top Dead Center and air pressure is applied. Then listen to the crankcase for airflow (weak rings), intake and exhaust(weak valves). Is the crankcase ventilation working properly, all passages open, inlet filter clear, valve working? Are the tops of the heads so sludged that oil cannot drain back to the crankcase so it puddles around the valve guides? Valve guide seals are another possibility. It's possible to change them in-frame. Has this engine been overheated? Would weaken the rings and cause oil consumption. If you have a catalytic converter, it's amazing how much oil can burn without much smoke. Converter burns it up so well.
A quart in 100 miles would smoke badly and would burn-out the cat-conv real fast. Look for an oil leak, especially at the oil filter. If it is not on tight or is on too tight oil will leak while the engine is running. Check the oil drain plug for being loose or cross threaded. Leaking valve covers, crank shaft seals, etc. If you are not shure have a mechanic check it out right away. This type of situation could go real bad fast.
Did you ever find out why you truck burned so much oil. I have the same problem with an 1989 460 burns 1 qt every 200 miles. Send me a note if possible, sampergola@msn.com
