I resently purchased a 1994 Bounder with a 454 Chevy (30,000 miles). I have only driven it a couple of times. The last last time out I noticed a slite miss in the engine when under a load, starting out, going up a slite hill etc. I pulled the plugs, even though they look pretty good they are Bosch Platiums, with two grd electrodes. Any sugjestions,on the miss and/or plugs?
I had the same problem, went with all new electric, plugs, cap, esm, etc. then fuel filter (in line) nothing helped forgot fuel filter in carb, changed that all fixed, runs great, saved all parts I changed as they were good for spares.
Check under the distributor cab. Check for a hair line crack. check for rust, sitting for a time, especially in humid areas, moisture seem to get in some of the darnedest places. Check under the Rotor too, rust,or burning. As for Bosch spark plugs, junk-um. My 454 loves those "AC Rapid Fire" spark plugs. I worked for Tune Masters once, I couldn't believe how many cars that came back, a short time later missing, because of those Bosch spark plugs. Check your spark plug wires too. Fire That baby up some night in the dark, look for sparks arcing, sometimes mice get in, and they will chew on anything. A wire could of gotten burn from being to close to the exhaust manifold, fell off the hanger or something like that. All else fails, get a Vacuum Gauge, maybe a burnt or sticking valve.
Dan,how are you doing,I also have 33 ft Pace Arrow motorhome.I am also a mechanic, last summer my 454 started missingmunder slight loads also, I think my engine has only 40000 miles on it. anyways it turn out to bad wires, I installed plugs also.and check the cap. but it turned out to be the wires. This surprise me because under a heavy load it was not a bad as a lighter load. Hope this helps you. Larry.
I have a 1974 Pontiac Lemans with a 350-2 barrel engine. I have replaced the fule filter, air filter, cap, wires, rotor, points/condenser, and plugs yet still get an ignition miss at speed. What else could this be? The engine idles fine with no miss. Thanks, Alex
Alexs, maybe you have a fuel pump that is not working to its full potenial, or it could be maybe your weights in your distributors cap that needs to be sprayed. Larry
