Does it have an aux. fan or fans? If so is it working? Has the thermostat been checked? There is a possibility that your radiator has lime or calcium deposits in it. The lower hose could be collapsing if there is a flow restriction in the radiator. The EGR valve could be opening too much or at the wrong time. Chech the exhaust for restriction. These are some thoughts to start with...good luck.

Do you know if the gages are accurate? At 250 degress I would think there would be steam coming out the radiator cap and you would deffinitely know it is overheating. You can add some air scoops to the front end to "ram" some air into the engine compartment. Also go to a high flow air filter like K & N and a big exhaust system. I did this with a Dodge 440 and also ran Lucas oil stabilizer in the oil. It never overheated but I never towed with that rig. Good luck in cooling it down.

Forgot to also mention to make sure the timing is right.

I had a similar problem on a 92 454 with 20k miles. Replaced or checked thermostat, fan clutch, exhaust, etc. Pulled the radiator and and noticed a lot of dirt behind the airconditioning unit and calcium deposits at the ends of the radiator tubes. I had it rebuilt with a four core desert radiator. It now runs at thermostat 190 and never exceeds 220/230 on long grades.
Re: engine overheat charlie 12-27-08
My 1994 bounder w/ 460 gas overheats at above 55 mph. I replaced the radiator, fan clutch I put 1 12" fan in push mode on the front of the radiator and removed the thermostat. As I drive over 55 it slowly works it's way up in temp. until it's too hot. Keep it below 55 I'm ok. Is my water pump going out or do I need more fans or what? Charlie.
