1996 Minnie Winnie Ford 460 engine voltage regulator wade 3-22-16
In my 1996 Minnie Winnie with Ford E350 460 engine, I charged the engine battery but didn't hold so put in new battery. when I started it the alternator was putting out 24 Volts - frying the battery. I assumed it was the alternator so changed it. when I started it up, same problem.

Any clue here? is there another voltage regulator in the engine that could have blown?

A guess: Commonly this system feeds Battery voltage from the battery to the alternator on a seperate wire. This is to insure acurate battery charging voltage.

If it is disconected from battery voltage the alternator will "Run Away" like yours

So pop over to your local retail parts store and get a wiring diagram and check for 12 volt reference at the regulator.
