1981 Winnebago Brave Scot 11-3-15
Is it even possible to pass California's smog test with such an old vehicle as a 1981 Winnibego Brave, 454? Is the state looking for money or do they just want old engines like this off of the roads?

There is no doubt that California is strict about this, But your old 454 powered rig should pass as long as:

It is in good repair and has all the original smog junk installed and working.

Most common problems for Motor homes is finding the correct Smog Check station, Pre 1996 ish vehicals require special equepment.

Next make sure its running on fresh, clean gas. Don't fire it up after a year in storage and expect it to pass on the old gas.
Make sure its right Hot, 20 minute drive before testing.
If you fail the first time don't panic, GMs of this era are horrible for ignition related failures. New cap rotor, wires and Spark Plugs. Gap your plugs at.005 smaller than spec. That will give you a more reliable spark.

Good Luck
