Well, I had minus thirty antifreeze and minus forty winter here in Minnesota. AT LEAST ONE freeze plug, the rear one, blew out and I suspect others did as well. Sounds like nearly an engine pull to replace them. Any advice on the possible need for a water pump too?

I am going to strongly advise that you do the work to change the frost plugs before spending the money on any other parts.
80% of the time when casting hole plugs pop, the block cracks. They really aren't frost plugs (called that where I live)
Put in temporary repair plugs and pressure test the cooling system full of water. If you get lucky then start spending money.
Temporary repair plugs are available at most parts stores.

Thanks Bubba. Good advice. I just don't look forward to precursors to the freeze plug replacement ;)
