|1978 ford 350. 460 class c engine leak||Yvette||8-6-13|
|I purchased this Class C Newmar mini motorhome in March 2013. Drove it from Taos New Mexico to Albuquerque and back up mountain, then to DFW area in Texas in June. It has a Ford 350, 460 7.5 L engine. Before any traveling I had oil changed, o ring replaced, gasket too, both batteries and all belts. Also, replaced the engine battery side solenoid. I have made two trips too to and from Oklahoma. However, all of a sudden, in its parked position, when I turn over the engine, I have what appears to be a clear water like, fuel smelling leak under the motor. It doesn't leak when off. I noticed that the lower radiator hose was wrapped with electricians tape so I bought not only the lower radiator hose but also the upper radiator hose with gasket and thermostat too. Gonna troubleshoot first by replacing those. But, when I noticed the drip smells like gas, I know that those hoses are probably not the problem. I also had to take my four month old house deep cycle battery back to parts store to replace it cuz it wouldn't hold a charge at all. New one I installed yesterday. Allstate good with that so far. Anyone have any ideas about this clear fluid, gas smelling leak under motor? I have the Haynes and Chilton books on order and pick up today but, not sure why sudden leak. I'm a 60 yr old, adventuring Grandma mechanic...having a ball! Need help.|

|Oh one more thing...she starts up instantly with great power and force...no problem there. I'm hoping the leak is some hose higher up than the lower radiator hose. Wherever its coming from, I can see it drip down to the lower radiator hose from above that and it also drips from two other places about a foot apart into three total puddles below. It's been over 100 here in Texas so it's hard to work on it in daylight. Maybe it's just a loose connection somewhere.|

|Smells like fuel, looks like fuel, dripping under front of the engine. Probably a fuel pump or fuel pump related hose. |
The fuel pump is a puck shaped aluminium object sticking out of the front side corner of the engine with a couple fuel line attached. Right near your lower rad hose I think.
There is also a fuel filter that can cause a leak above or near the pump.
This can be dangerous as the drip hole will only handle a tiny amount of leak and anything that cant drip out goes into the engine crank case and dilutes the oil with fuel.
Is your oil overfull? Smell like gas? Very Bad. Change oil and replace pump before starting again if possible.
