The fan belt keeps loosening. Originally I thought the housing was stripped so I drilled through and used a bolt with lock washer to keep it tight. The belt still seems to loosen and throws itself off the pulley. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What to check.

1st Check for bent pullys, If the crank pully or any of the others are bent this will happen. y the way, the belts will be ruined.

2nd Did you over tighten the belts? If you did it is toast and will have to be replaced before proceeding. Get the spec for the belt tighness and follow it carefully!

3rd Check all things the belt runs for bad bearings. A bad bearing will overheat a belt and cause this.

Finally the alternators tend to sieze and drag with a belt on them but dont show any trouble with the belt off. Check carefuly

Thanks for tips Bubba. All the other belts are off as I am only running the alternator belt. Air conditioning etc have all been removed to try and eliminate a cause. Alternator is new and even went to the next size belt which is a little wider than called for. Pulleys all line up but will check for bent one. Thanks again.
