|Carb problem Dodge 440||craig houser||3-2-13|
|Hello! I have a 1977 Establishment motorhome with a Dodge 440. It runs perfectly with one glitch. When I push the accelerator all the way down the choke plate will not close. So I have to do it manually to get it started. If it's flooded, it will not open when accelerator is pushed down. I've sprayed carb cleaner on the linkages with no luck. I would sure love to hear the solution to this problem. Thanks!|

|The choke should be open at full throttle, there is a device to clear a flooded condition called a choke kick and it holds the choke open at wide open throttle.|
Your problem seems to say this does not work though.
Are you getting full throttle? The cable is adjustable on most dodge powered units.
If the choke wont claose it sounds like the bimetal strip that runs this is damaged, worn out or disabled. It lives on the passenger side of the Carb below the carb on the intake.
These get adjusted too not working when they start comming off choke really slow, and that usually means the "Cross Over" for exsaust in the intake is pluged off. It is suposed to heat this area of the manifold to run the choke amoung other things. Very common old Dodge problem requiring removal of intake, cleaning passage and reassembly.
Basically you have a carb adjustment problem and need someone who has done this a few times to look at it.
