|1987 georgie boy chevy 454 boggs when accelerating||Marc Spencer||6-14-11|
|I have an 87 georgie boy motorhome with a chevy 454.. It boggs down when I step on the gas and lacks power going up hills. when I run for a while on high way and come to a stop it dies. I just rebuilt the carb and it ran good but still boggs down when accelerating. on the way back home it ran pretty good till I got off the high way then it died... waited a few min and started up again ran alittle rough and died at every stop... any one have any ideas. I put on ceramic plug wires and new plugs also just put a set of headers on it this week... I am thinking about replacing the carb its a rochester quadrajet original with the motorhome|

We need to see if it is loosing spark
TYou need to test for spark next time it quits. If it does not have spark probably a problem with cap rotor, pick up coil, in distributor modual, ignition coil.
As to the carb, rochesters tend to run lean at high throttle settings for long periods. A tinby drop in pump pressure and volume will cause this. My fathers Barth 454 had a pump push rod that was worn and causing a lean low power condition. This will cause an overheat and stall condition without hasving the cooling system boil.
You need to insure that this is not happening
Finally the headers will make a lean condition worse and drive up under hood tempuratures.

|Having the same problem with my home. Found out that the muffers were plugged from setting around. I have a 1987 pathfinder 454.|
